Hail injury may affect foliage, fruit, and occasionally bark. Damage includes torn and punctured leaves, as well as scarred and pitted fruit. Hail may damage or strip bark from young branches and trunks, typically on the upwind side of a tree or on upward facing limbs.

Management:

  • Apply fungicides immediately after a hail event to protect against fungal infections.
  • Hand-thin severely damaged fruit as soon as possible.
