Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) may reach a height of 31/2 feet and competes heavily with trees for nutrients and water. It reproduces by seed and perennial rhizomes, making it difficult to control.

Management:
- Pre-emergence herbicides applied persistently and repeatedly after germination
- Herbicides selective for grasses can also be applied
