Wood/cane cankers (Botryosphaeria, etc.) can occur in vineyards when plants are stressed and weakened. Canker-causing fungi enter woody tissue through wounds, such as pruning cuts, mechanical injury, and insect damage.

Management:

  • Practice proper sanitation (remove and destroy infected vines).
  • Promote plant vigor.
  • Avoid wounding (mechanical or physical damage, insect wounds).
